Living in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, NY, Charles had a vision to promote Calypso and Soca music and its artist to the world through his record store, Charlie’s Calypso City, and music label, Charlie’s Records. First time filmmaker, Tina Charles, is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and six-time WNBA All Star for the New York Liberty. Charles is the founder of Hopey’s Heart Foundation, dedicated to raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest through placement of Automated External Defibrillators. Starting in 2013, through the personal donation of her entire WNBA Salary, the foundation has placed over 350 defibrillators to date and saved a life in 2017.
